During our time in Kuala Lumpur, we were pleasantly surprised to come across some extremely nice people, amazing tourist hotspots, nightlife, shopping centers, beautiful hotels, and breathtaking cityscapes!

It didn’t take us long to get acquainted with the Malaysian lifestyle.

In fact, a few days in, we felt like locals too!

There’s just something about the city that it feels like a home away from home.

KL is an amazing place, the more we walked around the city, the more we began to compare it with Karachi.

Yes, Karachi.

Karachi has so much potential but due to several unfortunate events, it isn’t even half of what it could’ve been; the infrastructure, hotels, beautiful sights, busy streets during the day-time, and the calm during night-time.

Kuala Lumpur is basically Karachi that realized its potential.

But there’s one thing that’s eerily similar between the two cities: the amazing food!

During our 6-night stay in Kuala Lumpur, we ate a lot of food, both off the street and high-end.

Here’s a list of the top 3 foods we loved in Kuala Lumpur:

1. Rib Eye Steak – Pullman Hotels and Resorts

Rib Eye Steak from Pullman Hotels and Resorts

This was, hands down, one of THE BEST steaks we’ve ever had in our lives!

We asked for a medium-well steak, and boy, did we get it.

We ordered a mushroom sauce with our steak, which made the meal even better.

The cherry on top, however, was the mashed potatoes.

Fluffy, soft, and creamy. Melted as soon we put them in our mouths—YUM!

A huge shout out to the amazing staff at the Sedap Restaurant, Pullman, who accepted us with open arms, even though we came late at night when they were closing down.

They were super nice to us, and even gave (insisted on) complimentary warm water with honey, lemon, and garlic for Zain’s sore throat.

Cost per meal: 102RM / person

Mahnozain rating: 10/10

2. Chicken Shawarma – Shawarma Damascus

Chicken Shawarma from Shawarma Damascus

Do you think this looks good?

Wait till you eat it!!!

This food joint is run by a young team of native Syrians, who clearly know what they’re doing.

With a perfect blend of spices, homemade sauces, and succulent chicken, this shawarma became our go-to meal for the entirety of our trip.

Fun fact: We cut short our trip to Langkawi, because of Shawarma Damascus. That’s literally how good it was! (Ok maybe also because it was the rainy season in Langkawi.)

Cost per meal: 6-10RM / person

3. Blueberry Banana Milkshake – Jusu in Bukit Bintang

Blueberry Banana Milkshake from Jusu

This cute little juice corner in Bukit Bintang has our heart!

We went for some tech-shopping at Lowyat plaza, and on our way back, we stumbled upon this super nice salesperson who guided us on what to order.

They had a variety of options; from fresh juices to smoothies, and classic fruit shakes.

Mahno ordered a lemonade, and I went for a blueberry banana milkshake.

The lemonade was good, but man, the blueberry banana shake…

Needless to say, if you’re ever in or around Bukit Bintang, don’t forget to visit Jusu Milk Bar.

Cost per meal: 14-16RM / person

Mahnozain rating: 8.5/10

Bonus: Chicken Fajitas – 3 Amigos Mexican Restaurant

Chicken Fajitas from 3 Amigos

This was our first ever attempt at Mexican food.

Not going to lie, we were kind of iffy whether to go to the 3 amigos or the Italian place next door, but we’re glad we chose the first option.

The waiter was from Kerala, India—a super shy guy who tried his best to help us decide what to order.

The ambiance was okay at best, but the food…

This was one of their specialties, and it doesn’t take us long to realize why.

The dish was freshly made, and the spice level was exactly how we wanted it to be.

Somewhat similar to how Pakistanis like their food.

Cost per meal: 38RM / person

Mahnozain rating: 8/10
